Groups and Parent Focus group

Dear Parents,
I have several groups currently at the school available for your child.I have 4 different anger groups,2 self-esteem groups and a grief group.
On Mondays if you would like the support of other parents and help learning new parenting skills, we have a Parent Focus group from 9:30-11:00.
Please let me know if you are interested in these groups for you or your children.Just call and ask for Kathleen 472-2241.

Career Day is coming! November 22nd 2011

Career Day is November 22nd from 1-3. If you would like to help or present that day please call the school at 472-2241 and let me know. Also I am looking for trucks, etc for outside this year to show the kids careers on wheels. Please let me know if you have any ideas or can help.

Red Ribbon Week

Dear Parents,
Red Ribbon Week is the 17th - 21st.Take this time to hold a discussion with your children concerning drugs prevention. This week at Arnold we will having the following activities and discussions in the classroom:

Daily Themes and Activities:
OCTOBER 17th Monday, “Arnold Kids Pledge to make America drug free”

Teachers will discuss drug free pledge:
I promise to take care of myself.
I promise to make good choices.
I promise to be drug free.

Activity: Students will - Wear red, white & blue - patriotism.

OCTOBER 18thTuesday, “Born to Be Drug-Free”
Teachers and students will bring in a baby picture of themselves. The teachers will display the pictures in their room and return the pictures to the students the next week. Teachers will have a discussion with students about what they would like to be and the potential they have if they remain drug-free.

Activity : Bring in Baby pictures and students will be given a sticker with born to be drug free

OCTOBER 19th Wednesday, “The sky is the limit when we don’t use drugs”
Teachers will discuss how using drugs can negatively impact a person’s world and about the consequences it can bring about such as poor health, jail, losing friends, etc.

Activity- Students and staff will wear school blue t-shirts. Students will be given a “I’m a 100% drug free kid” Coloring sheet.

OCTOBER 20th Thursday, “Hooked on Books Not Drugs”
Teachers and students will discuss things that one can do instead of doing drugs, like reading a book.

Activity: Teachers will bring their favorite books to share with the class.

October 21st Friday, “Follow Your Dreams, Don’t Do Drugs”
Teachers will discuss how important it is to stay drug-free so that they can achieve their Goals/ future dreams.

Activity: Students will wear pajamas to demonstrate their commitment to following their dreams.

Parent Guidelines for Helping Children after a Tornado. I think this might help many of our families to better understand their reactions to last weeks tornadoes and our loss.

Rough week

Dear Parents,
I am so sorry for all the trauma our children and their families have been through the last week. I spent the morning talking with our children. I can tell how much they have grown up in the last week. I am so proud of how quickly our children are wanting to help others in our school and community that have been devastated by the tornadoes. We will be collecting school supplies for the schools that have had to move locations, as well as send letters to the children. I want you to please know,that I am here for you and your families. My office is always open. If I can help in any way possible,please come see me. Everyone in Cleveland has been through a very scary experience. If you need me I am here.

I will be starting a new grief group next week. Other groups this year are : I have a new sister/brother in our family,My parents are getting a divorce and I feel confused, and Anger Management. All groups last from 4-6 weeks and take place at school. Please call me at 472-2241 if you would like your child to be a part of a group.

Also I need ideas for Career Day!I was thinking about doing something different this year but I am not sure what! Do you have any ideas? Please share them with me and I'll take your idea to our new events committee.

We are going to have a FANTASTIC YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

Fifth Grade Orientation

Fifth grade orientation will be May 5th. Our 5th graders will go together to Cleveland Middle School. We will learn about the different activities CMS has to offer. Our parents may go and ask questions May 6th at 7pm.

New group and Thank You PTO

We have begun another new grief group. I would like to especially thank the PTO for helping my groups this year with supplies. I am sure the PTO has helped us touch the hearts of many families through their generous support. If you are interested in learning more about this group or others please email me or stop by at school and we will visit. I love spending time with you.Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with our school family. I feel so blessed coming to school each day.

Grief Group

We will be starting another grief group after Thanksgiving. If you have a child or grandchild that you think this will help please let me know as soon as possible. It will consist of 6 weekly sessions. The children make pots,plant seeds and help move each other towards healing and understanding. You may call me at 472-2241 or send a note in with your child. Have a beautiful Thanksgiving and enjoy the gift of your family.

Career Day

Career Day is November 24th,2009. It will be from 1:00-3:00. Please volunteer to speak during career day. Your child would love it. If you do not want to talk about your job with a class then I would love the help with greeting and escorting speakers. If you are interested please call me at 472-2241 as soon as possible.

WELCOME BACK

I am so very excited about this school year. We have so many activities that will be going on. This month we will work on the character trait "teamwork" in guidance classes. Every month we celebrate the character trait we have worked on in class with "Breakfast with Bender" in my office.The student that has best exhibited the character in their classroom and/or in the community has breakfast with Ms. Bender and receives a t-shirt and certificate.They will also have their names placed in the paper. In November we will have Career Day. If you would like to share your career or talent with a class, please let me know as soon as possible.
